United Way of Yellowstone County is the VISTA sponsoring
agency in Billings.
VISTAs (Volunteers In Service to America) have
been helping Montanans get things done for nearly 30
years.
The focus of VISTA work is to help do what is
necessary to enable local groups and communities do what
they want to do on their own. |

Big
Sky Hospice provides comfort care and support for
patients and families living with a terminal illness.
Services provided include intermittent nursing
and aide visits, social worker visits for counseling and
emotional support, spiritual counseling visits, and
trained volunteer visits for respite, errands, and other
helpful tasks.
Hospice covers the costs of medications,
equipment and medical supplies needed to care for the
terminal diagnosis.
Outpatient, inpatient and home crisis care
required to achieve comfort for the terminal diagnosis
is also provided.
Bereaved families are offered support for 12
months after death.
Physician certification of prognosis limited to
about 6 months is required.
Services are available for as long as the patient
continues to need them and meets the prognosis
guidelines.
Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and
some insurance.

JACS
runs the community mentoring program, which links
community volunteers with graduates of Job Corps (a
residential job training program).
Mentors provide guidance, advice, and supports to
these via the phone and in person for about one year. |

The
Montana Conservation Corps is an AmeriCorps volunteer
program which operates crews in Billings, Bozeman,
Boulder. Kalispell and Missoula.
Each year these crews complete a variety of
service projects addressing community needs including:
repair of senior citizen homes, distributing food to the
needy, teaching disabled people to ski, and repairing
buildings for non-profit agencies. |

a program of MSU Extension Services, 4-H is part of the
nationwide Extension network that links research-based
knowledge and technology to people where they live and
work. In
Montana, Extension faculty members work directly with
adult and teen volunteer leaders, local advisory groups
and others.
Provides
funds in all Montana counties for more than 28,000 4-H
youth and 4,500 volunteer leaders through various
scholarships, grants, and educational programs. |
